Silent Hill Music is Otherworldly

At one point, Silent Hill was considered to be one of the most important and influential horror franchise in the video game industry. Silent Hill 2 would likely make it to a list of my favorite games ever made. Its emotional storytelling interwoven with horrific imagery and unsettling locations makes for one of the most unforgettable experiences I've had. It went far beyond the expected tropes of "Here are some scary monsters! Better run/fight!" and got under your skin. It wanted to find out what really scared you.

Overtime the series has slowly disappeared. Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro were working on what looked to be an exciting return to form for the franchise, but it appears now that Konami hates video games and would rather their most talented employees be janitors, but that's another story entirely. Today, we are going to listen to some Silent Hill music.

Lots of melancholy and YouTube links await!
Silent Hill - Theme

I think this really covers all of the ground a theme song should be expected to. It begins with the unsettling tone you'd expect a Silent Hill game to have on its surface, but it ends up becoming a stirring and emotional piece of music by the end that wouldn't be out of place on a film soundtrack.

Silent Hill - Blood Tears

This piece, also from the first game, carries an even more emotional tone with it. Combined with the grainy graphics of the original game, this music is even more effective.

Silent Hill 2 - Promise & Promise (Reprise)

A lot of the key songs on the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack are more apt to use more traditional "rock" instruments, but that doesn't take away any of the emotional punch.

Regarding the reprise, when the words "Silent Hill music" enter my mind, this track is almost always the first thing that comes to mind. It is perfect and I don't think I could expand on that further.

Silent Hill 2 - Theme of Laura &Theme of Laura (Reprise)

The granddaddy of Silent Hill tracks, Theme of Laura is probably the single most popular song to emerge from the franchise. With good reason, too, it is a spectacular piece of music that anyone with an affinity for video game music should be very familiar with.

I think the Reprise is every bit as impactful as the original, but with a more stirring and melancholic arrangement.

BONUS: Silent Hill 3 - You're Not Here

I considered this to be a bonus song because I personally haven't played Silent Hill 3 yet (I know, I know!) I love some of the music from the game & this song in particular, though and felt it deserved some recognition.

There are many more great songs in this series outside of the handful I mentioned above, so I suggest seeking out the rest of them & playing what you can of the series since it doesn't look like it'll exist in any form in the future outside of pachinko machines.
